Whiskey dingle single malt batch 5 ireland 46.5° 70cl

Products with water drawn from a well, of extreme purity. not chill-filtered, these are whiskeys based on the harmony of the senses, work and high standards. Triple distilled from malted barley only.
This batch 5, the first available in France, was made from a blend of juices from ex-bourbon, PX and Madeira barrels. It reveals the influence of each of these barrels in a very pleasant way, with in particular notes of vanilla, honey and caramel from the bourbon, but also flavors of spices and raisins burnt in the sun as well as the sweetness from the ex -PX and Madeira barrels. Benriach whisky, single malt, speyside, 21 years old scotland 70 cl 46°
WHISKEY BENRIACH, SINGLE MALT, SPEYSIDE, 21 YEARS SCOTLAND 70 CL 46 °

Such a fascinating Speyside single malt whiskey as one from the house of Benriach would not exist without a traditional and unique production method.

John Duff opened the doors of his new distillery on the site of the old Riach farm in 1898. A building of raw beauty, Benriach draws its water from the mineral-rich aquifer below the site.

A true treasure hidden in the heart of Speyside, Benriach sets itself apart by offering three types of whiskeys - classic unpeated whiskeys, peated Highland whiskeys and tri-distilled whiskeys - and multiple flavors thanks to an eclectic collection of barrels from the four corners of the world.

This single malt is created by combining a peaty and non-peaty whiskey. It is aged for at least twenty-one years in four types of barrels: bourbon, sherry, new oak and Bordeaux red wine barrels. During this long aging stage, the sweet smoky flavors characteristic of Benriach whiskeys from Speyside soften and merge with fruity notes, malt and oak. After twenty-one years, the flavors develop to offer elegant notes of honey, enriched by a maturing stage carried out in several barrels. The whiskeys soak up the characteristic flavors of each cask and are then blended to create a rich and elegant single malt perfectly balanced, with notes of orchard fruit and toasted pine enhanced by a touch of smoky honey.

ANGOSTURA AROMATIC BITTERS 20CL
ANGOSTURA AROMATIC BITTERS 20CL

At the origin of the powerful group Angostura, we find ... a medicinal remedy, invented by Dr. Siegert, a German doctor who arrived in Venezuela to help Simon Bolivar, fighting for the independence of his country. To relieve the troops from the ravages of fevers, he develops a bitter liquor, based on local plants and spices.
It quickly bears the name of a Venezuelan port, Angostura (now Ciudad Bolivar). The heirs of Dr. Siegert will then give him an international reputation, not so much as a remedy ... but as an essential ingredient for the success of many cocktails.

A bit of history… on the Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned's first recipe dates back to 1862 under its old name "Whiskey Cocktail", but the current recipe comes from the "Pendennis Club" in Louisville, Kentucky. The Old Fashioned was developed by the club's bartender and a club member, James E. Pepper who incidentally owned the “Pepper” bourbon brand (that makes things easier…). The name given to this cocktail was the "Old Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail".

James E. Pepper was so proud of his cocktail that he ordered an Old Fashioned on all of his trips while teaching the bartender the recipe.

Prohibition in the US changed the recipe as with other cocktails from the USA. The bartenders crushed the sugar and the bitter with an orange zest while adding soda water and two maraschino cherries covering the taste of alcohol and bitter. The cocktail also took its final name of "Old Fashioned", it is easy to understand why the words Whiskey Cocktail have disappeared.

INGREDIENTS FOR 1 PERSON:

  • 6 cl of whiskey (bourbon, whiskey)
  • 1 piece of sugar
  • 1 dash of angostura bitters
  • 1 orange peel
  • 3 ice cubes
  • sparkling water

OLD FASHIONED PREPARATION:

  • Make the recipe in a mixing glass
  • Put the sugar in the glass, sprinkle it with angostura, a drop of whiskey then mash it and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Add ice cubes and whiskey.
  • Serve in an "old fashioned" type glass.
  • Extend the cocktail with sparkling water
  • Add the orange zest
