Products on 13 different terroirs, located on the right bank or on the left bank of the Serein, the Chablis Premiers Crus allow to discover and understand the great Kimmeridgian soils of Chablis. From vines planted on hillsides with beautiful south-west and south-east exposures, they all have their own personality that makes each wine unique. Some Premiers Crus are fine and mineral like the Montée de Tonnerre or the Côte de Léchet, the others are more tender and fruity like the Beauroy or floral and fleshy like the Fourchaume. Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses Joseph Drouhin 2020 75CL

With 80 hectares, Domaine Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest in the region. It is distributed throughout Burgundy: Chablis (38 hectares), Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, (38.5 hectares), Côte Chalonnaise (3.5 hectares), and comprises a majority of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, planted of the two Burgundy grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Location: Located on the right bank of the Serein, above the Grands Crus Bougros de Chablis, this plot, replanted in 2007, extends over a gently sloping hillside overlooking the surrounding climates, benefiting from an ideal southwest exposure .

History & traditions: In the 1960s, at a time when the Chablis vineyards were in decline, Robert Drouhin had faith in the potential of this soil which had been ravaged a century earlier by phylloxera. He was among the first Burgundian owners to promote this terroir, producing authentic wines reflecting their geographical origin.

Type of soil: “Kimmeridgian” limestone soil contains billions of marine microfossils in a whitish cement, testifying to its oceanic past several hundred million years old. This marine origin gives Chablis wines a distinct and inimitable flavor.

Grape: Chardonnay

Originally from Champagne, Alexis de Benoist settled in 2010 as an artisan winemaker in the family property to reinstate the culture of the vine, interrupted for a century, and reconnect with its history. Since then, the family has regained its title of winemaker.

Today, he cultivates 9,5 hectares of vines spread over two wine regions: Mâconnais and Beaujolais.

The intention is to harmonize the grape variety and its terroir to obtain wines with character. Anxious to preserve the environment and the quality of his wines, Alexis de Benoist has chosen to focus his efforts on the vine, favoring agriculture and a traditional cultural mode linked to observation.

In this 30 to 80 year old vineyard, the harvest is done by hand. The raisins are thus called healthy, when ripe and remain intact on arrival in the vats for vinification in whole bunches.

The choice of traditional vinification and aging aims to preserve the freshness of the fruit, while retaining structure, in order to produce an expressive, balanced and delicate wine for laying down.
