COTES DU RHONE SAINT COSME 2021 75 CL

COTES DU RHONE Saint Cosme 2022

Located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation, Saint Cosme is a historic estate of a unique kind. Its Gallo-Roman winemaking site, made up of fermentation tanks carved into the rock, has come down to us in perfect condition. It gives a precise idea of what the life of our close ancestors, the Gallo-Romans, should have been like. Acquired by the family in 1490, the property has seen a succession of 15 generations of winegrowers. It includes 22 ha of old vines with an average age of 60 years. They give small returns. The terroir of Saint Cosme is a geological mosaic linked to the great upheaval of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Saint Cosme is located exactly at the crossroads of two geological faults, in a cold and late microclimate: balance, freshness and finesse characterize our wines.

Saint Cosme - Côte-Rôtie 2021

"100% Serine (old syrah). Whole harvest. Schists and Micaschists in places called Semons, But de Mont, Les Bercheries, Maison Rouge, Rozier, Côte Rozier, Besset and Bodin. Twelve-month aging: 30% in new barrels - 70% in pieces of a wine. Rose, graphite, smoky, gooseberry. Bottling without filtration. Fortunately, our localities of the Côte-Rôtie, rather late, were not affected by the frost in 2021. When we talk about frost, we are of course obsessed with the loss of the harvest and this is completely normal, but we must not forget to what extent frost is a violent stress for the vine and for its physiology. The same goes for hail, which, by the way, never produces great vintages, because the vines need calm, balance and regularity to give the best of themselves. renewed in 2021 with a genuinely cold year like many of it experienced a few decades ago.Spring began with winter temperatures which delayed ripening. Although the summer was quite nice, we arrived at the harvest with a significant delay which generated harvests requiring a lot of precision in the work. The wines matured well, with successful aromatic resolutions and a 'fleshy' character that gradually took hold.

CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE CUVÉE CHAUPIN DOMAINE DE LA JANASSE 2018 75 CL

CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE CUVÉE CHAUPIN DOMAINE DE LA JANASSE 2018

In 1967, Aimé Sabon returned from his military service. He took over the vines from his father (who brought his grapes to the cooperative cellar) and his father-in-law (who sold the wine to the trade).
In 1973, Aimé built his own cellar. Thus was born the Domaine de la Janasse, named after the family farm which was located in Courthézon, at a place called “La Janasse”. Aimé is ambitious. Aware of having a fabulous terroir, he continues to expand the estate by acquiring new plots. From 15 hectares yesterday, La Janasse now occupies 90 hectares.

In 1991, after a BTA in viticulture and oenology in Beaune and a BTS in marketing in Mâcon, Christophe Sabon joined his father who, from the start, left him the keys to the cellar. Under his leadership, La Janasse produces different cuvées, conquers new markets and is firmly in keeping with its time.
In 2001, Isabelle, Christophe's sister, a graduate oenologist from the Faculty of Toulouse, joined the team in 2001. With Hélène, Aimé's wife and Christophe and Isabelle's mother, the family is reunited at La Janasse, which becomes, in a few years, one of the jewels of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

This cuvée comes from the cold and late terroirs of Chapouin (sand) and La Janasse and from the plateau of La Crau (sand). Area: 7 ha.
100% Garnacha. Vines planted in 1912 for the older ones. Vineyard: The vines are grown without pesticides or insecticides and the manure is of natural origin. The land is worked without weedkiller to maintain the aeration and flexibility of the soil.
Yield: 28hl/ha.
Vinification: Destemming at 80%. Maceration for 26 days with daily manual punching down. Ageing: 2/3 in tuns and 1/3 in demi-muids (600 litres). Production: 12000 to 16000 bottles per year. Tasting: The quintessence of Grenache in its finest expression from its birthplace of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Between notes of black fruits and violets, this cuvée advances in time quite supplely, with already melted tannins. A beautiful bottle, the archetype of the appellation, to pair with a deer stew today and over the next twenty-five years.
