COTE ROTIE THE GERMINE BENJAMIN AND DAVID DUCLAUX 2019 75 CL

Producer Benjamin & David DUCLAUX

Created in 1928, our estate was mainly developed by our father Edmond Duclaux. Today, we cultivate by hand 5,8 hectares of vines on the sloping slopes of Tupine and Semons. Our ambition is to produce elegant Côte-Rôties. typical of the southern Côte-Rôtie appellation (from a Gneiss bedrock).

The Cuvée La Germine is the main cuvée of the domain. It is a typical example of Côte-Rôtie from the south of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It is composed of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier. It comes from several so-called places (Coteau de Tupin, Tupin, le collet, Maison-Rouge, Coteau de Bassenon) all located on a source of Gneiss or Migmatite. This cuvée, both complete and balanced, primarily expresses the elegance of the Côte-Rôtie appellation.

GIGONDAS CHATEAU DE SAINT COSME 2018

70% Grenache - 14% Syrah - 15% Mourvèdre - 1% Cinsault. Whole harvest.
Twelve-month aging: 20% in new pieces - 50% in pieces of 1 to 4 wines - 30% in concrete vats.
Miocene limestone marls and sands.

An elegant and airy feminine gigondas.
A smooth and elegant palate marked with notes of purple blackberry, raspberry

Located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation, Saint Cosme is a historic estate of a unique kind. Its Gallo-Roman winemaking site, made up of fermentation tanks carved into the rock. It gives a precise idea of what the life of our close ancestors, the Gallo-Romans, should have been like. Acquired by the family in 1490, the property has seen a succession of 15 generations of winegrowers. It includes 22 ha of old vines with an average age of 60 years. They give small returns. The terroir of Saint Cosme is a geological mosaic linked to the great upheaval of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Saint Cosme is located exactly at the intersection of two geological faults, in a cold and late microclimate

Gigondas le Claux Château de Saint Cosme 2018 75 cl
Castle of Saint Cosme "The Claux" - Red Gigondas 2018

Very old Grenache planted at a place called “Le Claux”. Whole harvest. Limestone marls from the Miocene, in the Font des Papes alluvial cone. Aged for twelve months: 20% in new barrels - 50% in one-wine barrels - 30% in two-wine barrels.
In old French, "Clos" was written "Claux". Just as the first name Côme was written Cosme until the XNUMXth century. You will have noticed that we like the old writing of the words, before the spelling remotivation due to time distorts them a little. A Claux, which has become "Clos" in most French vineyards, was originally written Claus, Clausas, Clausis, Clauzis and designated a closed place, closed, from the Latin Clausum for "closed". A vine can be "enclosed" by a wall, a river, the sea, a lake or a cliff. It is indeed a long cliff that closes our “Claux”: this parcel therefore draws its etymological origin from the mists of time. The names of localities always mean something if we take the trouble to search a bit. I have a particular affection for Claux,

CROZES HERMITAGE BLACK ETOILE DOMAIN MELODY 2020 75CL

CROZES HERMITAGE BLACK ETOILE DOMAIN MELODY 2020

Now unavoidable, the vintage Etoile Noire comes from vines older than 50 years and raised for a year. The Black Star 2018 is a balanced and powerful wine at the same time, offering beautiful aromas of ripe fruit and black cherry. A great success.

The vineyard is planted on 3 very different types of soil:

  • Chassis : represents 80% of the parcels with a clay-limestone soil with many pebbles from the Rhône. the typicality of Crozes-Hermitage.
  • Larnage : is characterized by Loess, white varieties (Marsanne and Roussanne) coexist with Syrah to give white and red wines fond of and fruity.
  • The castle of Larnage : a white earth composed of Kaolin, characteristic of this village, foreshadows a bright future for our plot of Roussanne planted in 2011

The objective of the domain is toexpress the authenticity of the terroirs, this involves different approaches: - A reasoned fight for phytosanitary treatments: contact products such as Sulfur and Copper are preferred
- The use of organic fertilizers - The absence of weed killers and soil cultivation throughout the vineyard for balanced vines - Naturally controlled yields
- Manual harvesting with a first sorting at the plot

- Careful sorting by vibration in the cellar before vatting
- Traditional vinification in stainless steel vats

Gigondas le claux chateau de saint cosme 2019 75 cl
GIGONDAS LE CLAUX CHATEAU OF SAINT COSME 2019

Very old Grenache planted at a place called “Le Claux”. Whole harvest. Limestone marls from the Miocene, in the Font des Papes alluvial cone. Aged for twelve months: 20% in new barrels - 50% in barrels of one wine - 30% in barrels of two wines. Le Claux is a living testimony to a fundamental part of French wine history: the phylloxera crisis. The vine was replanted in 1870 on a rootstock that has almost disappeared today: the "Gloire de Montpellier". It was one of the very first vines replanted in the Rhone. Producing wines again after such a tragedy must have been "glorious", no doubt... The masculinity of Claux wines is coupled with a complexity that has its sources in the genetic diversity of all these old vine plants. , all different. The depth in the wines of Claux is always amazing, even in the most difficult vintages. In a vintage like 2019, this depth is more like the Mariana Trench than a small pond formed by the storm of August 15. The magic of great vintages is a pleasure, a gift from heaven that all winegrowers of the world share the same way. Because the joy produced by good wine is a human pleasure that is lost in the mists of time. Only the road that goes up to the village of Gigondas separates Claux from Hominis Fides. However, the wines are so different: it is always a good way to understand the meaning of the system of localities imagined by the Cistercian monks in Burgundy. Indeed, before throwing away the ideas of those who preceded us, you have to think, try other ideas many times, then decide by trying to see far ahead. Wait for this bottle for at least 10 years: time is incompressible, at least when you stay on Earth. Creozote, camphor, truffle, blackberry. Bottling without filtration.

COTE ROTIE STEPHANE OGIER 2020

Rooted in Ampuis for many generations, this family has always worked in the Côte-Rôtie vineyard. By taking over from his father Michel in 1998, he chose to do specific work on his different terroirs in order to reveal the uniqueness of these places full of history.

Chaveyron 1422 domain saladin wine of france 2020 75cl

CHAVEYRON 1422 DOMAINE SALADIN WINE OF FRANCE 2020

Domaine Saladin is located in Saint Marcel d'Ardèche, a southern village of the Côtes du Rhône du Sud, halfway between Montélimar and Avignon, on the right bank of the Rhône.

Elisabeth, Marie-Laurence, Louis and Annick Saladin are at the head of Domaine Saladin, a family property passed down from father to son and father to daughters since 1422. The 18 hectares and 13 grape varieties

Rhodanians of the estate offer the particularity of having always been harvested by hand, cultivated and vinified organically.

“Chaveyron – 1422” is a selection of plots located in Saint Marcel d'Ardèche. The archives show that in 1422, Raymond Saladin bought a vine planter at a place called “Chaveyron”. A composition, a XNUMXth century copy of which is kept in the departmental archives of the Ardèche, attests: “Raymondi Saladini de Trihano Item unum Planterium situun in Chalvayrono”.
Since then, the generations of farmers-vine growers have succeeded one another.
The terroir is made up of “red” earth, ferrous, dotted with rolled pebbles. The exposure is oriented South-East on hillsides. To the north, oaks, a “Clapas” (heap of stones in patois) and a hedge of high cypresses authorized the plot. The yield reaches 28 hectoliters per hectare. No use of pesticides, herbicides or insecticides since the origin of the Domain. The harvest is entirely manual. Certified Organic Agriculture by Ecocert. Since 2006, Elisabeth and Marie-Laurence have chosen to downgrade this cuvée to Table Wine because it does not meet the standard of the approval commission. Vinification method: Syrah and Viognier are harvested by hand and vinified together. One month vatting in indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place in oak casks for 9 months.

GIGONDAS LES GRAMES 2020 DOMAINE DES ESPIERS 75CL

GIGONDAS Cuvée Des Blaches 2020

Field of ESPIERS

It is in 1989 that the area of Espiers was born in Vacqueyras, when Philippe Cartoux decided to walk in the footsteps of his grandparents who owned a vineyard in the family since 1879.

The vineyard now covers 9,5 hectares including 3 to Gigondas, 4 en Cotes du Rhone et 2,5 en Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Sablet. The grape variety is largely dominated by the main 3 Rhone grape varieties, namely Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The vines are in struggle and receive no chemical treatment. In general, the gestures are all part of a logic of respect for the soil and the environment, with yields particularly lower than 35 hl / ha.

Harvesting is manual for traditional winemaking and aging in oak barrels. Philippe Cartoux likes to produce robust, gourmet but also refined wines. Proof of the quality of its work, Lavinia boutiques offer its wines.

This wine consists of a single plot of vines in the commune of Gigondas.
The vine is aged 40 and composed of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. The harvest is manual and often the grapes picked are slightly overripe in order to obtain wines more full-bodied.
The vinification is done with a very high temperature (+ 34 ° c) in order to extract a maximum of aromas and color. The harvest is complete to allow a good homogeneity of the grape marc and long pumping over.
This wine is then aged in barrels for about 12 months, then bottled without sticking or filtration.

cotes du rhone the two albion castle saint cosme 2015 75cl

COTES DU RHONE THE TWO ALBION CHATEAU DE SAINT COSME 2020

Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre co-fermented. Whole harvest. Six weeks vatting. Clay slopes (old alluvium), calcareous marls, rolled pebbles. Aged in wooden vats (truncated) and in concrete vats.
When you're a winegrower, the most difficult thing is to do things as simply as possible, without seeming to touch anything. This approach requires good experience, a sense of anticipation and a thorough knowledge of your discipline. Les deux Albions is our “think tank” for the co-fermentation of southern grape varieties. Each year a small quantity of grapes is dedicated to experiments which, in general, bring us back to what my father did, who had already experimented a lot himself. When you're a young winemaker, you try to demonstrate your ability to make good wine and that's the normal course of things, but it's much more interesting to “guide” the grapes rather than impose yourself on them. That's what my dad did and I think he was right.

Gigondas le Claux Château de Saint Cosme 2021 75 cl
Castle of Saint Cosme "The Claux" - Red Gigondas 2021

Very old Grenache planted at the place called "Le Claux". Whole harvest. Calcareous Miocene marls, in the alluvial cone of the Font des Papes. Twelve-month aging: 20% in new pieces - 50% in pieces of one wine - 30% in pieces of two wines.
In old French, "Clos" was written "Claux". Just as the first name Côme was written Cosme until the XNUMXth century. The names of the localities always mean something if we take the trouble to search a bit. I have a particular affection for Claux, our oldest vine, which produces the most “Burgundy” wine of the estate, full of bouquet, finesse and freshness.
