The distillery takes its name from the main Reunion River, northwest of the island. It is the most important of the three steaming local distilleries, with a theoretical capacity of 40 000l of rum per day. Its creation goes back to 1886 but it moved to its current site of production in Saint-Benoît in 1984. It is supplied with molasses by the two active sugar factories of the island - Gol and Bois Rouge, 100 000 tons of sugar each year, brand Blonvilliers and La Perruche - but it also produces a small amount of rum from pure juice. of cane. Reunion rums have a Geographical Indication since January 22 2015 for all types of rums produced locally. This traditional rum (from molasses) was column distilled in 2005. Selected by the cellar master for its exceptional potential, it was aged in new oak barrels for 8 to 14 months then in fine-grained red barrels in the cellar in Saint-Pierre de la Réunion.
