GIGONDAS LE CLAUX CHATEAU OF SAINT COSME 2017 


Very old Grenache planted at the place called "Le Claux". Whole harvest. Calcareous Miocene marls, in the alluvial cone of the Font des Papes. Twelve-month aging: 20% in new pieces - 50% in pieces of one wine - 30% in pieces of two wines.

And if Le Claux was the best wine of Saint Cosme? In light of the last tastings of old wines that we conducted at the estate, it is permissible to ask the question. Certainly, Le Claux is the oldest vine in Saint Cosme and one of the first post-phylloxeric plantations in France, but why does this soil generate so much quality?
That said, the microclimate of Saint Cosme probably has a significant impact on this locality: the fresh air of the valley of the Font des Papes continuously refreshes this area which gives intensely aromatic fruit. The cold influence would tend to be demonstrated by the fact that Le Claux is a later terroir.

CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE MONT REDON LE PLATEAU 2017 

Château Mont-Redon is located northwest of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. In one piece, the property has the privilege of having the three emblematic terroirs of the appellation: mainly the rolled pebbles of the plateau, then the safres and the Urgonian limestones.

This limited production cuvée represents the soul of Mont-Redon: a selection of old vines from the Mont-Redon plateau.

Grapes: 60% Grenache Noir and 40% Syrah.

Aged for 12 months in vats, Burgundy barrels and demi-muids. When I took over Saint Cosme in 1992, I had to wait until my fourth year (1995) to experience the joys of a great vintage. I had been a little unlucky because it is rare to have four difficult vintages (from 1991 to 1994) in a row. In Rouanne, from my second year I am entitled to a great vintage: 2019. The magnificent hillside of Rouanne has given the full measure of its limitless potential, a bit like a racehorse whose energy must be channelled. After a beautiful spring and a flowering which gave small berries, the dry summer helped to express the intensity, a common point of all the great vintages. The astonishing salinity, a true signature of Rouanne, brings the essential freshness to an absolutely magnificent whole. The depth of the fruit, the length and the complexity make it a great wine for laying down. Indeed it is a wine of great dimension, great structure and great potential. The category in which Rouanne plays is the high level, and we will talk about this 2019 of low yields for a long time. I am gradually discovering the mysteries of this terroir, but it must be said that understanding generates just as many questions. The most important thing is that the intimate relationship with this place grows day by day. Cinnamon, licorice, black pepper, gingerbread and salinity. Bottling without filtration"

CAIRANNE LES DOUYS DOMAINE ORATORY SAINT MARTIN 2020 75CL

Grapes: 60% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre

The Domaine de l'Oratoire Saint-Martin covers 25 hectares only in the municipality of Cairanne. Most of the vineyard is located in the northeast of the town, 200 meters above sea level on steep hills in an area commonly called "the mountain" in the localities of Saint-Martin, Les Douyes and Coustias.

It was in 1692 under the aegis of André Alary that the Alary family settled in Cairanne, as evidenced by the municipal archives. Winegrowers on this terroir from father to son, 10 generations have successively passed on the estate, which has been enlarged over time. Each generation inherited the same love of vines and wine, the same concern for good cultivation and perfect vinification.

Manual sorting of the grapes in the vineyard then in the cellar. De-stemming without crushing and vinification for 18 days under racks for a slow and gentle extraction. Indigenous yeasts. Aging lasts about 12 to 15 months in casks depending on the vintage, then bottling is carried out without fining or filtration.

Since 1996, the venerable Maison Delas Frères, whose roots go back to 1835, has regained the soul and sparkle that have contributed to its fame.
Under the impetus of the new management, numerous investments were made on the Saint-Jean-de-Muzols production site, near Tournon-sur-Rhône. 

A motivated team proudly participates in the qualitative renewal of this Grande Maison in the Rhône Valley: a vat room specially designed for the vinification of red wines, the complete restructuring of the aging cellar are among the key elements of the House's quality approach. Delas, summed up in one sentence: to perpetuate and sublimate the expression of the Terroir.

On this AOC, located at the northern end of the Rhône Valley, the very famous cuvée "La Landonne" from Delas Frères (100% Syrah) is a plot selection whose production hardly exceeds 2.500 bottles per vintage, exclusively in the great years.
