Rooted in Ampuis for many generations, this family has always worked in the Côte-Rôtie vineyard. By taking over from his father Michel in 1998, he chose to do specific work on his different terroirs in order to reveal the uniqueness of these places full of history.

On the left bank of the Rhône, at the height of the 45th parallel, unfolds the largest vineyard of the northern appellations, in 11 communes of the Drôme: the Vineyard of Crozes-Hermitage. A prestigious cru, Crozes-Hermitage is available in reds, made from Syrah, and whites from Roussanne and Marsanne.


Acquired by the family in 1490, the property comprises 22 ha of old vines with an average age of 60 years.
They give small yields. The terroir of Saint Cosme is a geological mosaic linked to the great upheaval of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Saint Cosme is located exactly at the crossing point of two geological faults, in a cold and late microclimate: balance, freshness and finesse characterize the wines.

Very old Grenache planted at a place called “Le Claux”. Whole harvest. Limestone marls from the Miocene, in the Font des Papes alluvial cone. Aged for twelve months: 20% in new barrels - 50% in barrels of one wine - 30% in barrels of two wines. Le Claux is a living testimony to a fundamental part of French wine history: the phylloxera crisis. The vine was replanted in 1870 on a rootstock that has almost disappeared today: the "Gloire de Montpellier". It was one of the very first vines replanted in the Rhone. Producing wines again after such a tragedy must have been "glorious", no doubt... The masculinity of Claux wines is coupled with a complexity that has its sources in the genetic diversity of all these old vine plants. , all different. The depth in the wines of Claux is always amazing, even in the most difficult vintages. In a vintage like 2019, this depth is more like the Mariana Trench than a small pond formed by the storm of August 15. The magic of great vintages is a pleasure, a gift from heaven that all winegrowers of the world share the same way. Because the joy produced by good wine is a human pleasure that is lost in the mists of time. Only the road that goes up to the village of Gigondas separates Claux from Hominis Fides. However, the wines are so different: it is always a good way to understand the meaning of the system of localities imagined by the Cistercian monks in Burgundy. Indeed, before throwing away the ideas of those who preceded us, you have to think, try other ideas many times, then decide by trying to see far ahead. It is in 1989 that the area of ​​Espiers was born in Vacqueyras, when Philippe Cartoux decided to walk in the footsteps of his grandparents who owned a vineyard in the family since 1879.

The vineyard now covers 9,5 hectares including 3 to Gigondas , 4 en Cotes du Rhone et 2,5 en Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Sablet . The grape variety is very largely dominated by the 3 main Rhone grape varieties, namely Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The vines are in reasoned fight and do not receive any chemical treatment. In general, the gestures are all part of a logic of respect for the terroir and the environment, with in particular yields of less than 35 hl/ha.

The harvest is manual for traditional vinification and aging taking place in oak barrels. Philippe Cartoux likes to develop robust, gourmet but also refined wines. 

The grape variety is not classic since it is 65% Grenache noir and 35% Syrah. The nature of the soil is clay-limestone, and the yield for the traditional vintage is faithful to the decree of the appellation, i.e. 35 hl. The vinification is traditional, without destemming, cold at the beginning, then raised to temperature (35°) and stripped in order to extract maximum fruit. The harvest is carried out manually and the cultivation of the soil is mechanical (without chemical weedkillers) the wines are generally unfiltered. Aging is carried out for 6 months in 225 liter barrels.

In 1967, Aimé Sabon returned from his military service. He took over the vines from his father (who brought his grapes to the cooperative cellar) and his father-in-law (who sold the wine to the trade).
In 1973, Aimé built his own cellar. Thus was born the Domaine de la Janasse, named after the family farm which was located in Courthézon, at a place called “La Janasse”. Aimé is ambitious. Aware of having a fabulous terroir, he continues to expand the estate by acquiring new plots. From 15 hectares yesterday, La Janasse now occupies 90 hectares.

In 1991, after a BTA in viticulture and oenology in Beaune and a BTS in marketing in Mâcon, Christophe Sabon joined his father who, from the start, left him the keys to the cellar. Under his leadership, La Janasse produces different cuvées, conquers new markets and is firmly in keeping with its time.
In 2001, Isabelle, Christophe's sister, a graduate oenologist from the Faculty of Toulouse, joined the team in 2001. With Hélène, Aimé's wife and Christophe and Isabelle's mother, the family is reunited at La Janasse, which becomes, in a few years, one of the jewels of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

This cuvée comes from the cold and late terroirs of Chapouin (sand) and La Janasse and from the plateau of La Crau (sand). Area: 7 ha.
100% Garnacha. Vines planted in 1912 for the older ones. Vineyard: The vines are grown without pesticides or insecticides and the manure is of natural origin. The land is worked without weedkiller to maintain the aeration and flexibility of the soil.
Yield: 28hl/ha.
Vinification: Destemming at 80%. Maceration for 26 days with daily manual punching down. Ageing: 2/3 in tuns and 1/3 in demi-muids (600 litres). Production: 12000 to 16000 bottles per year. Tasting: The quintessence of Grenache in its finest expression from its birthplace of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Between notes of black fruits and violets, this cuvée advances in time quite supplely, with already melted tannins. A beautiful bottle, the archetype of the appellation, to pair with a deer stew today and over the next twenty-five years.

The magnificent hillside of Rouanne has given the full measure of its limitless potential, a bit like a racehorse whose energy must be channelled. After a beautiful spring and a flowering which gave small berries, the dry summer helped to express the intensity, a common point of all the great vintages. The astonishing salinity, a true signature of Rouanne, brings the essential freshness to an absolutely magnificent whole. The depth of the fruit, the length and the complexity make it a great wine for laying down. Indeed it is a wine of great dimension, great structure and great potential. The category in which Rouanne plays is the high level, and we will talk about this 2019 of low yields for a long time. I am gradually discovering the mysteries of this terroir, but it must be said that understanding generates just as many questions. Domaine Saladin is located in Saint Marcel d'Ardèche, a southern village of the Côtes du Rhône du Sud, halfway between Montélimar and Avignon, on the right bank of the Rhône.

Elisabeth, Marie-Laurence, Louis and Annick Saladin are at the head of Domaine Saladin, a family property passed down from father to son and father to daughters since 1422. The 18 hectares and 13 grape varieties 

Rhodanians of the estate offer the particularity of having always been harvested by hand, cultivated and vinified organically. 

 “Chaveyron – 1422” is a selection of plots located in Saint Marcel d'Ardèche. The archives show that in 1422, Raymond Saladin bought a vine planter at a place called “Chaveyron”. A composition, a XNUMXth century copy of which is kept in the departmental archives of the Ardèche, attests: “Raymondi Saladini de Trihano Item unum Planterium situun in Chalvayrono”.
Since then, the generations of farmers-vine growers have succeeded one another. 
The terroir is made up of “red” earth, ferrous, dotted with rolled pebbles. The exposure is oriented South-East on hillsides. To the north, oaks, a “Clapas” (heap of stones in patois) and a hedge of high cypresses authorized the plot. The yield reaches 28 hectoliters per hectare. No use of pesticides, herbicides or insecticides since the origin of the Domain. The harvest is entirely manual. Certified Organic Agriculture by Ecocert. Since 2006, Elisabeth and Marie-Laurence have chosen to downgrade this cuvée to Table Wine because it does not meet the standard of the approval commission. Vinification method: Syrah and Viognier are harvested by hand and vinified together. One month vatting in indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place in oak casks for 9 months.

Created in 1928, our estate was mainly developed by our father Edmond Duclaux. Today, we cultivate by hand 5,8 hectares of vines on the sloping slopes of Tupine and Semons. Our ambition is to produce elegant Côte-Rôties. typical of the southern Côte-Rôtie appellation (from a Gneiss bedrock).

The Cuvée La Germine is the main cuvée of the domain. It is a typical example of Côte-Rôtie from the south of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It is composed of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier. It comes from several so-called places (Coteau de Tupin, Tupin, le collet, Maison-Rouge, Coteau de Bassenon) all located on a source of Gneiss or Migmatite. This cuvée, both complete and balanced, primarily expresses the elegance of the Côte-Rôtie appellation.
