Comments
Banyuls is certainly the name that produces the finest and most complex natural sweet wines in France.
Cellar storage
Once opened the bottle can be kept cool for several days.
Terroir
Banyuls high-altitude vines: Shale terraces in the upper Baillaury valley, under the Banyuls pass (Franco-Spanish border).
Grapes
100% black grenache from old vines.
Harvests carried out in several batches, by hand, at very high maturity, on a very hot vintage, with exceptional autumnal sunshine.
winemaking
Traditional vinification.
Mutage with neutral alcohol in small quantities given the natural alcoholic degree of the grapes.
Aging for two years in glass jars placed outside, for accelerated oxidation, then in century-old oak casks for refining, without human intervention since 1957.
Tasting
Dense, deep red color with copper highlights.
Complex nose, blond tobacco, mocha and plum brandy.
Ample, gourmet palate, dominated by prune with an evolution towards aromas of roasting, chocolate and sour cherry. Exceptional persistence, on the flesh of cooked prunes.
Ideal with a dark chocolate dessert and a cigar.

RIVESALTES RED DOMAINE CASENOBE 1977 75CL

RIVESALTES RED DOMAINE CASENOBE 1977 75CL

Bottling in 2017

The AOC Rivesaltes defines a natural sweet wine (VDN). It is produced near the town of Rivesaltes, over a large part of the Pyrénées Orientales. The appellation covers 5200 hectares and produces approximately 127 hectoliters per year. The climate is like in all of Roussillon, of the Mediterranean type. The territory of this AOC is crossed by three rivers, the Agly, the Têt and the Tech, which have drawn a relief composed of stepped terraces and hills, with various types of soil: pebbles, granite, clays and silts as well as shales.

All the wines of this AOC must undergo mutage, a process initiated by Arnau de Vilanova (Arnaud de Villeneuve) in the 96th century which consists of stopping the alcoholic fermentation of the must by adding wine alcohol at a minimum of XNUMX°. This traditional operation, which characterizes Vins Doux Naturels (VDN), makes it possible to better preserve the sugars and enhance the natural aromas specific to the grape varieties used. The Rivesaltes are produced with four main grape varieties: Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Grenache Noir, Maccabeu, and two accessory grape varieties which are Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Muscat d'Alexandrie.

The name of the Rivesaltes appellation wines may be supplemented by the words "amber" (aging in an oxidative medium for a minimum of two years), "garnet" (minimum 75% Grenache noir and storage in a reducing medium for a minimum of 12 months, including 3 in bottles), “tuilé” (ageing in contact with air for a minimum of two years) and “out of age” (for amber and tuilé Rivesaltes aged for a minimum of 5 years). White Rivesaltes are amber in color as they age with an aroma of vanilla, cooked cherry or honey. Red Rivesaltes are more potent and can be kept much longer.

banyuls rimage 2020 cornet & cie 75 cl

Producer The Cave of Abbé Rous

The wines of the Cornet & Cie range have in common a pure and intense aromatic expression. The schist terroir is fully expressed there with the mineral elegance that characterizes it so well. The adventure was initiated by the winegrowers whose plots are spread around the small farmhouse that gave its name to these cuvées. Today other winegrowers who share the same love of a job well done have joined them. The vines are always selected with the same requirements and because they present characteristics comparable to the original vineyard (altitude, age, nature of the vineyard). soil, phytosanitary potential ...).

BANYULS WHITE 2019 CORNET & CIE 75 CL

Producer The Cave of Abbé Rous

The vineyard of Banyuls vintage is located in the extreme south of France at the meeting point between Pyrenees and Mediterranean.
The vines are planted there in terraces on schist slopes, from the seaside to the bottom of the valleys of the hinterland. The wines of the Cornet & Cie range have in common a pure and intense aromatic expression. The plots that make it possible to produce this cuvée are selected with great care and because they have comparable characteristics (altitude, age, nature of the soil, phytosanitary potential).
